Riverford Pears

Another painting from life, this time the pears that arrived in the Riverford organic box! I'm uncertain what variety they are - 'Williams' pears, perhaps - but love their craggy forms and the symmetry of the negative spaces between them. The pears turned a beautiful shade of yellow eventually. They tasted delicious and were very juicy! Click to enlarge. 'Riverford Pears' oil on canvas, 30 x 30 cm/12" x 12".

  4. wonderful Lesley!
They look like what we have here called Bartletts. Start out green, then turn a greeny yellow.

  7. Hi. I love your painting of our pears! I happen to work for Riverford and this site came up on a Google alert.
I am not very arty and don't usually like still life, but this is fab. The light particulalry.

  11. Lovely comments, thanks so much to you all!

The pears are 'backlit' which always appeals. On another occasion I may be tempted to move to the other side of the table to paint them 'in full daylight'! :o)

  12. I like your pears, they are very believable, nice use of tone, especially the subtle shadow.

  13. Oh I love those pears - definitely Williams! And you have made a fantastic painting, the essence of pear!!

How do you find the Riverford boxes? We tried a local one once and we had masses of beetroot, which I hate! So we stopped!

  14. Love your painting, very gentle and calm. I have just put pears in a dish and 'saw a painting' then came on your site so even more inspired to have a go. Thankyou Lesley and for the comments on my site.

  15. Thanks Val and Gilly - and good luck with your pear painting Carol, they are inspirational, aren't they?

I'm struggling with tulips today - bought especially to paint - and without another opportunity to work on them until next Tuesday, should really not be blogging! It's those pesky displacement activities again.

Plus, the house needs hoovering from top to bottom and the grass needs cutting.

Now just let me drink this cup of tea and I'll get back to work...........

  16. Hi Lesley, Love the pears. The pale pastel colours of this painting works so well, and I especially like the shadows, so nicely done.
    Thanks for visiting me. Milly
