Bigger Oil Paintings For A Change.....

Much larger artworks relatively than the square 13.5 cm oils on board usually displayed on this blog, the earliest of these paintings were commenced in the last weeks of 2017 and completed early this year.  Two were inspired by weather conditions generated by Storm Eleanor, which hit during the night of 3rd January, 2018.  And the heavy textures of 'The Clean Wave' result from the reworking of an earlier artwork. Rendered in oil on canvas, each one is set in a chunky white painted wood frame. The first is currently displayed in the window of Art Space Gallery, St Ives 'Storm Eleanor, the Morning After' oil on canvas, framed, 40.5 x 40.5 cm.  SOLD The following paintings can be viewed at Beyond the Sea Gallery, Padstow during the Easter holidays. 'The Clean Wave' oil on canvas, framed, 41 x 41 cm. SOLD 'Porthmeor Beach Horizon' oil on canvas, framed 41 x 41 cm. SOLD 'Storm Eleanor's Touch...

'Devon Sky Magenta'

'Devon Sky Magenta'  oil on deep-edge canvas, 30 x 48 inches/76 x 121 cm Custom canvas from TP Timber Stretchers , St Just. Painted by Yours Truly in St Ives. Carried across the border by 3 Lanes Art Transportation , St Ives. Produced in Cornwall for a home in Devon. Although this commission is based on an earlier abstract work (by request) it has 'evolved into its own painting' because I found myself thinking of a recent visit to Horton Gower, Wales and remembering looking across the open, empty beach and Bristol Channel to the North Coast of Devon. In situ at its new home. Click to enlarge.  Copyright Lesley Ninnes, St Ives, Cornwall.

Latest painting 'Ground Sea and Seaweed'

Another re-worked painting, which in this case involved turning the canvas upside down and incorporating what had previously been 'sky'into the glow at the base of the surf breaking on the sand!  I'd recently witnessed similar conditions, when turbulence and undertow beneath the surface give an illusion of calm between the formation of increasingly large swells - and clumps of seaweed which have been torn from the rocks are rolled and pulled up into the waves before being flung ashore. Now exhibited at Art Space Gallery , St Ives. 'Ground Sea and Seaweed' acrylic/oil on canvas, white wood frame, 79 x 64 x 5 cm.   SOLD Click to enlarge.  Copyright Lesley Ninnes.
