Today!

I'm trying to be disciplined here, creating a post before clicking all of those tantalising links in my reading list, otherwise all will be lost and another day will pass without a post from Sea Blue Sky Abstracts (no loss some might say)!

Anyway, walking the dog earlier, a speedy walk, not far from home given the torrential showers we have been experiencing in this part of the world, I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye in time to see a buzzard land on a goal post at Penbeagle Play Park (Palemon Best). Sorry, no pictures as I didn't have a camera - but heck, everyone knows what a buzzard looks like don't they? I'm being facetious, even now, I don't really know (my eyesight's not what it was). I was thrilled and stopped to watch for a while before following the path down and even closer to the bird, within about 20 yards, looking all the time. The buzzard was not bothered at all, although kept an eye on us while doing a spot of preening. In profile, I reckoned from head to tale, it measured at least 2 feet, maybe 2 feet 6 inches. So impressive and, guess what, I saw a fox in the top rugby field yesterday!

  1. Nice one Lesley. I remember a time when the sight of a Buzzard was not that common and, outside of their strongholds of the West country, Wales and Scotland, almost unheard of. Seeing one so close is a real treat. The sight of a fox in this area is probably rarer than a Buzzard.
When I lived in Christchurch we would occasionally open the front door to find them sitting on the doorstep and regularly saw them in broad daylight. They are much warier here.
I like your collages very much, especially the butterflies

  2. Thanks Richard. This one wasn't 'your typical fox' - the most recent previous sighting had been pale, spare with a mainly white bushy tail - whereas Tuesday's fox didn't have a bushy tail and the white flashes on the side of its face were accentuated by dark markings above, there were dark markings on the tail too, almost like stripes! I did wonder if it was some sort of crossbreed?

Summer, such a hectic, busy time here in St Ives, no complaints though, there's been enough sunshine to keep everyone happy!

The ever popular Square Deal Show at St Ives Society of Artists Mariners Gallery is another unmissable September Festival event.  I have my blank canvas, it's unwrapped and a start on it will be made very soon - just need to think about what to paint!
