Porthmeor Triptych

There's quite an interesting story attached to 'Porthmeor Triptych' below:
I'd bought the distressed frame back in the summer and cut and primed paper and board in readiness, but didn't get around to starting the painting until the last week of November, right after the Christmas Card printmaking workshop!  Two big 'toothpaste squeezes' of green and blue ink remained unused at the end of the day, which I scraped onto some cartridge paper and took home rather than waste - and then transferred to what has become the top painting.  I think the intensity of the inks has given an authentic 'sea feel' to the artwork and scraping away the glutinous solidifying medium, a pleasing abstract quality.

  2. I love that! The intense green sort of seeping through gives a really sea watery feel - I can feel the spray in my face!

  4. Wishing you a Happy New Year too. Lovely to find you had visited and I have just enjoyed reading some of your lastest posts. Hope you have a great year producing many more of your wonderful paintings. Like your holly and bird cards. And I instantly loved your magpie moth photograph, have painted it many times over the years, my favourite moth.
Beautiful calm day here and blue sky, but very chilly with snow on high Lakeland hills. I hope you survived the rough storms and it didn't do too much damage.

    1. Thanks Molly - the January weather continues with gales, hail showers and rough seas here. Perhaps more snow for you, though? Lesley x

On the personal news front: All six of the artworks painted with submission to the annual ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in mind are now at the framer's.  There's still time to enter, click the link to find out more.

The Rotary Club of St Ives popular fundraising exhibition of donated postcard sized art is a high point of the annual St Ives September Festival and my contribution is already in the hands of the organisers.

The ever popular Square Deal Show at St Ives Society of Artists Mariners Gallery is another unmissable September Festival event.  I have my blank canvas, it's unwrapped and a start on it will be made very soon - just need to think about what to paint!
