Cornwall Hospice Care Charity Art Auction, which took place at the Exchange Gallery, Penzance on Saturday 13 May, 2017, attracted over 100 lots donated by mainly local artists. Although initially less busy than the previous art fundraising auction for St Julia's and Mount Edgcumbe hospices at The Exchange, all of the submissions sold on the night thanks to the efforts of auctioneer David Lay, whose performance, sometimes bordering outrageous but hugely entertaining, swept the audience through a whirlwind 2 hours of laughs and financial outlay. On arrival visitors received a glass of bubbly, delicious canapes from Archie Browns and viewed the artworks, to the impressive saxophone accompaniment provided by glamorous all-female quartet 'Cafe Sax'. There were bargains to be had for buyers delighted to acquire pieces of original art below market price and also many big selling artworks attracting a flurry of bidding and counter bidding to benefit this worthwhile cause.
Update: After expenses, over £7,500 was raised for the hospices. What a great result!
