Spring is coming.......

Spring is on its way - spotted my first Celandine yesterday and there was sun at last today after all the grey, and warmth out of the breeze.  Best of all there are ever increasing hours of daylight!

In this post there are more pics of Mallorca from October 2011 featuring Port Andratx and Sant Elm.  And I have included another 'rejuvenated' painting - let me know what you think.

First, a startling photo of Mallorca which appeared in the 5 Feb edition of the Mail on Sunday, with ice and snow and temps of -4C conditions were far colder than in St Ives this winter!

Anyway, back to the sunshine - this is Port Andratx  on the South West coast of Mallorca.

The marina and surrounding hills.

A fisherman cleans his catch.

Soaking up the sun.

It was baking hot and I for one was desperate to get into the water.  Once immersed it was wonderful to float and throw a few lazy strokes to swim in such beautiful surroundings, as the port is ringed by hills.

We used buses a lot and found them very efficient, prices were reasonable and they were usually air conditioned and very clean.

Our next destination was beautiful Sant Elm, click here to see it in HD on Youtube.

There's a small island close to shore and on the right in the pic below part of the much larger island of Dragonera can be seen, to which there are regular boat trips in the summer and walking enthusiasts scale the arduous paths that run its  length and breadth.

Swimming was bliss, the water was warm and crystal clear.  Just perfect.

Now for the latest rejuvenated painting:  'Undercurrent 2008'.  I liked the subtle colours and serene mood of this painting.

However, it was painted in 2008 and hadn't yet sold!  More oomph and colour needed perhaps?  The result is 'Undercurrent 2012' below.  Currently exhibited at Art Space Gallery.  Click to enlarge. SOLD

Perhaps I've been influenced by Patrick Heron's 'Horizontal Stripes' painting?  The 1957 painting currently has a starring role in Simon Fujiwara's 'Mirror Stage' at Tate St Ives until 7 May 2012.

  1. I like both paintings - but I think I actually prefer the first. The colours are so subtle, and it has a wonderful calming effect on me!

The second is a bit more "in your face" and just at the moment that is not what I need!!

    Though the colours are great!

    1. Thanks Libby, I really appreciate your opinion. It's sunny again here today, peaceful too, except for bird song. Hope that the weather's getting warmer where you are. x

    2. Gilly, I mean, of course!! Have a good weekend up there in the North. Lesley x

  2. I too love both paintings, but prefer the first one. The weather here has been very spring like too - i just hope it lasts for the weekend. xxx

    1. Thanks for that Diane - don't want to disappoint you, but plummeting temperatures and even snow, are forecast!! x

  3. oh those clear waters look so very tempting~!
i look out my windows today to the biggest snowfall we've had all winter (4-6 inches) so your shots of ease and warmth are welcome in my world.

i think the painting now looks like a dramatic sunrise about to happen . . .

    1. I did wonder Libby about just how cold it is out there at the moment. Thanks for visiting, will visit soon. Lesley x

  4. I like the re-vamped colors, hope it sells for you this time.
I do believe you are part mermaid!

    1. Part mermaid - I like that Jeri. Thanks for visiting and have a great week. Lesley x

  5. Dear Lesley, I am so happy that in some days I will meet you! I just wrote about my visit and posted your and Carolyns interview plus the inspiration again on my blog! This is a big dream that comes true!

    1. Andrea that's great - best wishes for a safe journey and see you soon. Lesley x

  6. Hi Lesley, just stopping by to say how delightful your blog is. Thanks so much for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

    1. Thanks for visiting Chris, I'm following you now - like what you have done to the little chair. Best wishes. Lesley

  7. Hi Lesley, Your holiday photographs were so cheery on another grey day in this part of the world. The clear water looks lovely, on that subject I do always love the way you capture the sea and the beach in your paintings. The first picture is the winner for me, colours are lovely.
Have a great weekend, hope the sun shines. x

    1. Milly it's been grey here too! Only a matter of time though, before we're all enjoying sun and blue skies again (I hope). Best wishes. x
