Sennen Sojourn

Sennen Cove, pictured last Friday 12 August, at around 9-9.30 in the morning - wet, misty conditions don't detract from the empty beauty of this lovely, curved beach.

We stayed with my friend's brother and his wife, who run the Old Success Inn, Sennen arriving on the Thursday evening in plenty of time to take part in the regular quiz.  After a night spent within earshot of the sea (the photo above was taken just across the road from the Old Success) in what must be the most comfortable beds ever, followed by a delicious full English breakfast, we made our way down to the sea.

Thank heavens for wet suits!
'Ground sea' had created pits in the sand, kelp strands swirled around my feet and I was thrilled to be joined by a Shag swimming and diving within touching distance - that's a first, what a treat.

Have a look at this earlier post to see more photos.  Click here for more info about the Old Success.

Above and below are details of 'Go Down to the Sea' rendered in oil on deep-edge canvas, measuring 31 x 81 cm.  Click to enlarge.  Copyright Lesley Ninnes.  SOLD

Have a good week everyone. x

  1. I love Sennen and hubby and I plan to spend some time at the Old Success - once we are free of hols with the kids. Its a heavenly place - I often feel I have stepped back to the 1950's. Great paintings as ever Lesley xxx

  2. Beautiful, beautiful photos. And what is a shag???
Your painting is wonderful - the water so full of life and dancing beneath a gorgeous sky.

  3. Lovely photos and wonderful art. :)

  4. Wow, love the beach, the photos and your art. Great post. Looks like you had fun. There's nothing like a stroll by the beach to find your inner peace. xoxo

  5. Oh Lesley, they are completely fantastic. Sennen is such a beautfiul and inspiring place, and you've captured the feel prefectly xx

  6. Thanks everyone - for visiting and such lovely comments!

Just 15 miles or so down the coast from St Ives, Sennen is much quieter (people-wise) and spacious, with a hint of year round 'wildness'. The break, though very short, really provided a much needed change of scene.

    Lesley x

  7. Love your painting as always - what a beautiful place.

  8. The colours in your photos are so serene. Love that bottom painting.

  9. Never been to Sennen. What a beautiful place! And such good photos, and your work of the sea is wonderful!

And how sensible to have relatives running a great pub right by the sea!!

  10. Thanks Gilly - will visit soon. Have a good weekend, Lesley x

  11. Your post has made me long to go to the sea again, I feel very land locked at the moment. Your landscapes and your painting are in perfect synergy with each other.

  12. Thanks Valerie. Some wild weather yesterday, with spectacular wind driven seas though the weather is set to improve and sun is forecast for Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday. Have a lovely weekend. Lesley x
