Long ago summer colour

Here's another 'golden oldie' painted around a decade ago, I think, using watercolour and gouache on NOT or Cold Pressed - which is somewhere between supersmooth Hot Pressed and ROUGH - watercolour paper. The drawing was made on cartridge paper first, with lots of rubbing out and correcting of lines before being transferred using tracing paper onto the stretched watercolour paper.

Flowers have always been a struggle to represent, whereas I love painting leaves and stems. Having said that, I am pleased with these cheerful red poppies!

Have a great weekend everyone. x

what beautifully strong colors and wonderful details you've captured in this vibrant painting~!!!!~

  3. Sigh.......... how lovely, and also what an insight into how your work has changed................... I laughed because I love to paint flowers and petals, but always struggled with leaves! (And still do!). I also used to love hot pressed paper............ I could never handle rough watercolour paper as it deflected my paintbrush.......... (I know you will understand this comment!!!!!!). :O)

  4. Beautiful and vibrant. Also very interesting to see your style from years ago Lesley
