Beautiful Bath

Just over a week ago I travelled up to Bath for the preview of Bath Society of Artists Annual Open Exhibition.  Decades have passed since I last visited and it was thrilling to be back in this beautiful city, albeit for a very short time!

And the weather was gorgeous - no need to worry about taking a brolly - or even a cardigan for that matter!

The preview was extremely busy and the diversity of styles and subject matter of the 300 artworks displayed made for a really interesting evening.  Sadly no pics as photography is not permitted.  Click here for more information about the current exhibition.

I stayed at Travelodge Bath Waterside which is situated at Widcombe Basin alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal and just minutes on foot from Bath Railway Station and the Town Centre.  There was no air conditioning so my room was extremely hot, although it was possible to open the large picture window a few inches.  The staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast in the cool room overlooking the canal was basic, but plentiful.

Such a nice walk from the Hotel....

The permanent collection upstairs is well worth a visit

Delighted to discover the next day that it was possible to walk all the way to and from Pulteney Bridge to the Hotel via the footpath alongside the canal - in the centre of the city where the only traffic was of the river variety!

A great visit, I'll have to go again!

Collage two paintings 30 x60 cm

In this detail, the anaglypta, pink florist's cellophane and paint on canvas can be seen. Reddish/brown transparent glazing in the centre section and swirls of aqua opaque impasto on the right. This includes a piece of anaglypta from Carol Parsons painting class back in March, 2009? This particular piece of wallpaper has already been used to 'print paint to canvas'. Victoria Hilliard produces lovely ceramic pictures inspired by nature, including the portrayal of moths and butterflies. Would I have produced this collage if Tori were not a member of Art Space Gallery? Maybe not. Everything is 'grist to the visual mill' as far as artists are concerned. 'Floral - Pedestal' this painting just evolved. Fun, fun and more fun! 'Floral - Feel Amazing'. I love this artwork! My daughter's boyfriend bought her flowers, including old fashioned roses, which provided the inspiration for the flowers at the top of the painting and the cellophane wrapper is
