Spring is coming.......

Spring is on its way - spotted my first Celandine yesterday and there was sun at last today after all the grey, and warmth out of the breeze.  Best of all there are ever increasing hours of daylight!

In this post there are more pics of Mallorca from October 2011 featuring Port Andratx and Sant Elm.  And I have included another 'rejuvenated' painting - let me know what you think.

First, a startling photo of Mallorca which appeared in the 5 Feb edition of the Mail on Sunday, with ice and snow and temps of -4C conditions were far colder than in St Ives this winter!

Anyway, back to the sunshine - this is Port Andratx  on the South West coast of Mallorca.

The marina and surrounding hills.

A fisherman cleans his catch.

Soaking up the sun.

It was baking hot and I for one was desperate to get into the water.  Once immersed it was wonderful to float and throw a few lazy strokes to swim in such beautiful surroundings, as the port is ringed by hills.

We used buses a lot and found them very efficient, prices were reasonable and they were usually air conditioned and very clean.

Our next destination was beautiful Sant Elm, click here to see it in HD on Youtube.

There's a small island close to shore and on the right in the pic below part of the much larger island of Dragonera can be seen, to which there are regular boat trips in the summer and walking enthusiasts scale the arduous paths that run its  length and breadth.

Swimming was bliss, the water was warm and crystal clear.  Just perfect.

Now for the latest rejuvenated painting:  'Undercurrent 2008'.  I liked the subtle colours and serene mood of this painting.

However, it was painted in 2008 and hadn't yet sold!  More oomph and colour needed perhaps?  The result is 'Undercurrent 2012' below.  Currently exhibited at Art Space Gallery.  Click to enlarge. SOLD

Perhaps I've been influenced by Patrick Heron's 'Horizontal Stripes' painting?  The 1957 painting currently has a starring role in Simon Fujiwara's 'Mirror Stage' at Tate St Ives until 7 May 2012.

Collage two paintings 30 x60 cm

In this detail, the anaglypta, pink florist's cellophane and paint on canvas can be seen. Reddish/brown transparent glazing in the centre section and swirls of aqua opaque impasto on the right. This includes a piece of anaglypta from Carol Parsons painting class back in March, 2009? This particular piece of wallpaper has already been used to 'print paint to canvas'. Victoria Hilliard produces lovely ceramic pictures inspired by nature, including the portrayal of moths and butterflies. Would I have produced this collage if Tori were not a member of Art Space Gallery? Maybe not. Everything is 'grist to the visual mill' as far as artists are concerned. 'Floral - Pedestal' this painting just evolved. Fun, fun and more fun! 'Floral - Feel Amazing'. I love this artwork! My daughter's boyfriend bought her flowers, including old fashioned roses, which provided the inspiration for the flowers at the top of the painting and the cellophane wrapper is
