Although this commission is based on an earlier abstract work (by request) it has 'evolved into its own painting' because I found myself thinking of a recent visit to Horton Gower, Wales and remembering looking across the open, empty beach and Bristol Channel to the North Coast of Devon. So many pieces included in this post - 3 or so weeks worth - all small and some that are quite dark, which is inappropriate really as we've been having fantastic summer weather here in St Ives! I've been lucky to spend three consecutive days painting, punctuated by plenty of breaks in the garden making the most of glorious sunshine, in the midst of nature, enjoying summer smells, cloudless blue skies and birdsong.  It has been hot, hot, hot! Most of the square paintings are, or soon will be displayed at Art Space Gallery, St Ives   'Black Rocks Porthmeor' is exhibited at St Ives Society of Artists Mariners Gallery. All of the tiny boards have yet to be float mounted ready for display in the browsers at St Ives Society. 'Explore the Space with Me' and 'Porthcurnow Sienna' 'Explore the Space with Me' mixed media 47 x 24 cm. This artwork will be exhibited at Penwith Society of Arts Associates Show which opens at the Penwith Gallery, St Ives on Saturday 7 June, 2014. Preview 6.30-8.30 pm, Friday 6 June Had so much fun assembling this artwork  using painted board, fragments of paint tube and foil  laid on brown paper 'Porthcurnow Sienna'  acrylic and oil on board 33 x 28 cm Currently displayed at Art Space Gallery , St Ives.  SOLD The colours and soft light in this painting reminded me of a beautiful evening out West last summer - hence the title. There have been at least 100 submissions of artwork to an auction in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care which takes place at The Exchange Gallery, Penzance on Saturday 3 May.  Donations have come from artists across Cornwall, all of whom are listed in the accompanying catalogue, which can be downloaded  here The Gallery is open for viewing on Friday 2 May, 10am - 5pm; Saturday 3 May, 10am - 3pm, 7pm - 8pm. David Lay is conducting the auction so there won't be a dull moment on the night, plus there will be delicious edibles, some bubbly and also music from the Four Tunes Saxophone quartet.   Definitely an evening not to to miss!!
